Lifetime Care

Cashmere Care Guide

Your cashmere is a lifetime investment. With proper care, it will grow softer and more beautiful with every wear.

Step 01

Washing Your Cashmere

Hand Wash Preferred

Fill a basin with cool water (under 30°C / 86°F). Add a small amount of specialist wool or cashmere shampoo — never regular detergent. Gently submerge and lightly squeeze the fabric. Do not rub, wring, or scrub.

Machine Wash (Cautiously)

If machine washing, use the delicate/wool cycle at 30°C or less. Place your cashmere in a mesh laundry bag. Use a cashmere-specific or wool-safe detergent. Never spin at high speed.

Rinse Gently

Rinse thoroughly in water of the same temperature as the wash — temperature changes cause felting. Press (never wring) excess water out gently between clean towels.

Dry Cleaning

Professional dry cleaning is always a safe option, especially for structured pieces. Inform your cleaner it is genuine Pashmina cashmere.

Quick Reference

Do

✓ Cool water only (≤30°C)

✓ Specialist wool/cashmere detergent

✓ Gentle hand pressure only

✓ Dry flat on a clean towel

✓ Store folded, never hung

✓ Use cedar to deter moths

Don't

✗ Never use hot water

✗ Never tumble dry

✗ Never hang when wet

✗ Never bleach or use harsh detergents

✗ Never iron directly on fabric

✗ Never wring or twist

Step 02

Drying

Never hang cashmere to dry — the weight of wet fibre causes stretching and distortion. Lay flat on a clean, dry towel in its natural shape, reshaping gently by hand.

Allow to air dry naturally away from direct sunlight or heat sources. Direct heat causes felting and shrinkage. A well-ventilated room at room temperature is ideal.

Step 03

Storing

Store your cashmere folded (never on a hanger) in the breathable cotton muslin pouch included with your order, or in an acid-free tissue-lined box.

Place cedar balls or natural lavender sachets nearby to deter moths — chemical mothballs damage cashmere fibre. Store in a cool, dry place. For seasonal storage, seal inside the cotton pouch before placing in a closed container.

Step 04

Ironing

If ironing is necessary, set your iron to the lowest steam setting (Wool/Cashmere). Always place a clean damp cloth between the iron and the garment — never apply iron directly to cashmere.

A handheld garment steamer is a gentler alternative and removes wrinkles without contact pressure. Hold the steamer 2–3cm from the surface.

Common Questions

Frequently Asked

Pilling is a completely natural characteristic of genuine cashmere — it is actually a sign of authenticity. It occurs when shorter fibres work their way to the surface through friction. It is more common in the first few wears. Use a cashmere comb or a fine-toothed cashmere de-piller to gently remove pills. Never pull them off by hand.

Yes. A cashmere comb (a fine wooden or metal comb with rounded teeth) gently removes pills without damaging the weave. Work in one direction across the fabric with light, short strokes. A fabric shaver on the lowest setting also works well. After de-pilling, your cashmere will look like new.

Felting is caused by a combination of heat, agitation, and moisture. If your piece has felted slightly, lay it flat while damp and very gently stretch it back into shape with your hands. For severe felting, unfortunately the process is difficult to reverse — prevention (cool water, gentle handling) is always better.

Cashmere does not need frequent washing. Air your cashmere between wears — hang it on a padded hanger in a ventilated space for a few hours. Spot-clean small stains immediately with cool water. Wash the full piece only when needed, roughly every 3–5 wears or each season.

A small amount of mild baby shampoo or hair conditioner can work as a gentle substitute in an emergency, as the pH is similar to specialist cashmere wash. Avoid regular laundry detergents — they are too alkaline and strip the natural lanolin oils that keep cashmere soft.
